India observes second Veer Bal Diwas to mark the valor of the sons of Guru Govind Singh Ji

“Chiriya te mai Baaz Ladawa, Sawa Lakh se ek Ladawa, Tabhi Gobind Singh naam kahawa.”

What is Veer Bal Diwas?

On 9th January 2022, the day of the Prakash Parab of Sri Guru Govind Singh Ji, Prime Minister Sri Narendra Modi announced that 26th December would be observed as Veer Bal Diwas. This is announced to mark the martyrdom of sons of Sri Guru Govind Singh Ji, Sahibzada Baba Zorawar Singh Ji and Baba Fateh Singh Ji. This was the second celebration of Veer Bal Diwas. During the event to commemorate the celebration of Veer Bal Diwas Prime Minister Modi said, “India is now coming out of the mindset of colonial supremacy, slavery and has full faith in its culture, heritage, people and their abilities.”

Sacrifices of Sons of Sri Guru Govind Singh Ji

Two of the four sons of Sri Guru Govind Singh Ji, Sahibzada Ajit Singh and Jujhar Singh attained martyrdom during battle of Chamkaur fighting with Mughal Army, while other two sons Sahibzada Zorawar Singh Ji and Fateh Singh Ji, nine and seven years old, respectively, were bricked alive at Fatehgarh Sahib on order of Wazir Khan, governor of Sirhind.

Sri Guru Govind Singh Ji

Sri Guru Govind Singh Ji was the tenth and last human guru of Sikh community. He was born in the year 1666 in Patna Sahib Bihar as Govind Das. His father was Guru Teg Bahadur Ji and mother was Mata Gujri. He became Guru of Sikh community at the age of nine year after the execution of his father Guru Teg Bahadur by Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. Aurangzeb executed his father Guru Teg Bahadur in the consequence of refusing to convert to Islam.

Guru Govind Singh was the founder of Khalsa Panth. He initiated the five K’s tradition of Khalsa. Kesh, Kara, kangha, Kachhera and Kirpan were the five K’s tradition of Khalsa. He presented a code of discipline for Khalsa. Eating halal meat was forbidden. He told his disciples that there is no difference between the true Guru and the Sangath.

Guru Govind Singh gave equal respect to the literature as war in his lifetime. He finalized the primary and holy scripture of Sikh community-Guru Granth Sahib and included the composition of his father Sri Guru Teg Bahadur. He was the tenth and the last human Guru of Sikhism and declared Guru Granth Sahib to be the eternal Guru for Sikhs.
